Goran Vesić, the Minister of Construction, Transport, and Infrastructure, announced at the Kopaonik Business Forum today that the completion of the highway to Montenegro, specifically Boljar, is feasible within three and a half to four years. However, he emphasized that the timeline for the remaining stretch to the Montenegrin coast is contingent upon Montenegro, as they have not yet initiated the construction process on their side.

Vesić addressed this during the panel discussion on “Development of infrastructure in conditions of rising interest rates” when queried about when it will be possible to drive to the Montenegrin coast in five to six hours.

He expressed optimism about the potential tender for the reconstruction of the Belgrade – Bar railway taking place this year.

“As of this year, we anticipate needing 3.5 to four years to complete our segment of the highway. The overall timeline also hinges on Montenegro, as they have not yet contracted their portion. Nevertheless, from our perspective, we are looking at a timeframe of 3.5 to four years,” Vesić stated during the panel, where notable figures such as Nikola Pontara, the director of the World Bank office in Serbia, were also present.

Vesić underscored the challenging nature of the remaining section to the border, emphasizing the presence of numerous tunnels and bridges. He noted that over 20 percent of the route comprises tunnels and bridges. Despite the difficulty, he assured that the completion of this section is achievable within a maximum of four years.
