Serbia: Since May, the price of electricity will go up by 8 percent, and gas by 11 percent
, NewsIn the forecast of the trend of consumer prices for the second quarter of this year, the Republic Institute of Statistics announced in the newsletter Trends a precise increase in the price of electricity and gas.
“From May 2023, a new monthly increase in electricity prices of eight percent and gas of 11 percent has been announced and will result in a year-on-year increase in electricity prices of 24.8 percent and gas prices of 26.9 percent in the second quarter of 2023.”
In this way, it will participate in the structure of the forecast annual growth rate of consumer prices for the second quarter of 2023 with about 9.4 percent.
This announced increase in the prices of electricity and gas is the subject of an agreement during the conclusion of a new arrangement between the Government of Serbia and the IMF and refers to the policy of financial sustainability of the energy sector”, according to the RZS publication.
Ever since the announcement of the arrangement with the IMF in December last year, it was clear that electricity and gas would have to rise in price and that one of the price increases would occur in May.
More expensive gas and electricity were also announced by state officials, although without precise amounts of price increases.
Dušan Bajatović recently assessed at the Kopaonik Business Forum that there will be one or two price increases this year, and that the first “will not be more than 10 percent and will not be before May 1”.
