All interested companies are invited to build 3,280 kilometers of broadband internet in the villages of 85 municipalities in Serbia. Funds for this work were allocated by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
The EBRD announced the call on behalf of the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, and it is a pre-qualification procedure for the construction of broadband internet to rural settlements in Serbia.
The work will be divided into two lots, and it involves designing and construction works on a total of 3,280 kilometers of underground optical network (midmile) in rural areas in 85 municipalities of Serbia.
The call was announced on August 24th and is open until September 25th at 3 p.m. The work will be financed from the EBRD loan. As previously announced, it is an investment worth 500 million euros.
In June, the Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Mihailo Jovanović, stated that the Ministry has made a plan to introduce high-speed internet in more than 700 villages by the end of 2025, which means that practically all of Serbia will be covered by broadband internet. Current coverage is 75 percent of the country’s territory.
The project was launched in December last year and is expected to build more than 4,700 kilometers of optical cable routes and connect more than 120,000 households and about 720 school facilities.
